Death Information
The UO Project is a PvP-oriented Ultima Online shard and as such, it is inevitable that even the most experienced and practiced fighters on this shard will die on a regular basis when playing.
There is also a chance that your character will be killed by monsters or traps and other threats located throughout the world.
So what exactly happens when your screen becomes grey and you transform into a Ghost, looking over your lifeless corpse and what can you do to resolve the predicament?
As a Ghost...
As a Ghost you will not be able to interact with the world as you can when you are alive. You may not pick objects up, move them or use them.
Other players will not be able to see your Ghost if you are in PEACE mode. They will however, be able to see you if you are in WAR mode. They can hear you either way, but what you say will appear at the side of their screen and not above your Ghosts head (as you will be invisible).
You can, however, pass through doors without obstruction.
Items in Your Backpack and Equipped to your Character
The items you possess or have equipped to your character are predominantly the reason as to why another player may attack you.
When you die, your corpse remains lifeless at the spot in which you died and another player may double left click on it to view, and take any items that were inside your backpack or on your character at the time you died. This includes gold/ weapons/ armour/ clothing/ reagants and tools, etc.
You will find this very frustrating at first, however, all new players cannot be harmed by another unless they have at least 450 skill points OR have played the game for 80 hours.
Remember also, that once you are well versed in the art of player combat, you may obtain sweet revenge upon your attackers.
There are, however, certain items you may be carrying which will not appear in your corpse upon death. These items are known as "newbied" items and will remain tied to your character, even when you die. Such items include your spellbook/ house deeds/ some keys, etc.
Once you have ressurected your character, you may return to the location of your corpse and retrieve any items remaining.
If you a ressurected whilst standing on top of your corpse, your Ghost will rejoin it and you will regain control of the corpse, with all of your items intact (if they haven't been looted by another player)
NOTA BENE: It is important to note that looting a karma blue player is a criminal offense and you will be able to call the guards upon anyone who does this to you in a Guarded area. This is not the same for players who are in another Faction to you, or if you are in the same guild as the player looting your corpse.
Ressurecting
There are 4 main methods through which you can be ressurected.
Perhaps the most reliable is to find a Healer NPC, which are located in most towns and some even wander the map, living and working in solitude. You must be in WAR mode in order for the NPC to see you and ressurect your character.
Shrines and Ressurection stones can be double left clicked and will instantly bring you back to life.
Another player may kindly ressurect you using their Magery Spell "Ressurect". This spell can be used by Mages with 80% magery. You must also be in WAR mode for the player to see your Ghost and target the spell on your character.
The Healing skill can also be used to ressurect Ghosts. This however, requires Grandmaster level Healing and both bloody AND clean bandages. You must again, be in WAR mode so that the player can target you.
Home Stones
Home Stones are placed in most towns. When you double click them, you will bind your soul to that stone and upon death you may say...
...to send your soul to the location of that stone.
